They Dared And They Dated: The Auctionista Date Post Event Report

A few days shy of V-day, Auction.ph launched a promo dubbed Dare To Date An Auctionista. The promo contest gave Auction.ph members a chance to date anyone from our stable of website ambassadors, the Auctionistas.

After a week of bidding frenzy, two Auctionistas emerged as the most wanted and two website members were rewarded for their tenacity. The Auctionista winners are Monique Lim of DLSU getting the highest bid with 130,000 and Kurt Fernandez of UP Diliman with 150,000. The members who won free dates are top-seller Benedict Qua aka Tycoon888 and Auction.ph newbie, Carina Traballo.

The date started with refreshments in Krispy Kreme in Greenhills. The daters were given some time to get acquainted with each other and to dispense with casual introductory tactics. In true dating fashion, the guys surprised the ladies with romantic staples that include one red rose and a box of chocolates.

After the rendezvous, the daters were transported to Okura Fusion Japanese Restaurant in Jupiter St., Makati City. Restaurant owner Mr. Jay Ha was on hand to personally greet everyone. Extra appreciation goes out to Mr. Ha for making sure that the daters had a memorable dining experience.

For lunch, the daters relished an exquisite buffet meticulously prepared by the restaurant staff. The daters selected from a colorful array of Japanese traditional cuisine and inventive dishes that fuses different tastes and textures. From Asian-style kebabs to sumptuous sushi, the restaurant’s lunch time buffet has everything to please everyone–from the most seasoned gastronome to anyone simply looking for a straight-up, satisfying meal.

Mr. Ha demonstrated his generosity by offering the daters a bottle of red wine. The daters accepted graciously. It was the perfect complement to an excellent meal.

After lunch, the entourage proceeded in taking photos of the daters together with the wait staff. They then exchanged farewells and the daters left Okura Fusion with bellies full and cheerful smiles that can only be inspired by unforgettable food.

The daters then headed to Market, Market for a bout of LazerXtreme–a fun and exciting way to burn calories. It was also a charming ruse for the guys to play the hero. Alas, the daters were squared-off with toddlers for 20 minutes of lazer tag action therefore eliminating the damsel in distress angle and replacing it with “don’t step on the kindergarten” heroics.

LazerXtreme, here we come!

Twenty minutes later, the daters stepped out of the battle chamber happy and proud of their scorecards. Kurt performed particularly well landing number two on the kill count. Carina, on the other hand, just slightly missed hitting rock bottom. She went “hip-hop gangsta” for ten minutes and held the lazer with just one hand which, in effect, made her fire lazer blanks. The lazer gun has to be held with two hands to fire.

Benedict also managed to get a respectable score. He had a hard time shooting moving targets who were below his waistline. Monique on the other hand had a hard time avoiding them. She collided with one and was later on bullied from a higher platform by ten-year olds.

Date memorabilia: Scorecards!

After intense lazer tag action, the daters had refreshments in a nearby coffee shop.  They recalled the highlights of the date and then proceeded in exchanging mobile numbers.  They found the food and the Okura Fusion atmosphere particularly delightful.  They said they had a blast in LazerXtreme and went on further by saying that a revisit is definitely in order.  Hopefully, with a gang of slightly taller competitors.

“We had fun and we thank Auction.ph for this experience,” said Benedict. “We really didn’t know what to expect but we all got along. It was such a relief!” added Monique. Kurt and Carina were also both thankful for the experience and confessed that it was one of the most comfortable dates they ever had.

So what lies ahead for our daters? It’s really none of our business. But the thing is, we’ve done our part and the rest is now up to them.

First online sellers bazaar happening this November

Decades, ago, there was a TV ad that typified the Pinoy consumer. It featured a housewife in a duster in a neighborhood wet market. As she flitted past stalls, she would, as a force of habit, conduct quality inspection by pinching, massaging, smelling and doing all sorts of ancient testing to raw ingredients.

Nothing much has changed since then except for the deconstruction of the housewife stereotype. Nothing much will change, apparently, as far as purchasing practices are concerned. The “touchy-feely” routine shall always be integral to a complete shopping experience. Connection with the merchandise and a human sales pitch are the main things that the online shopping experience lacks. But not for long.

On November 29 and 30, 2008 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, the Philippine Internet Sellers Organization (PiSO) is presenting eCOMEX 2008: ReVOLUTION.

osblogo2The two-day event shall feature the first Online Sellers Bazaar here in the Philippines. The bazaar promises to uphold the virtue of what made online shopping interesting in the first place—unique merchandise. Shoppers will find a pre-holiday haven in the bazaar with its amazing showcase of uniquely-designed, original products at unbeatable prices. Featuring a remarkable mix of Internet merchants, products for sale are wide-ranging from apparel to high-fashion clothes, from beauty products to the latest gadgets, from accessories to desserts, and so much more.

The first Online Sellers Bazaar promises an experience entirely different from the usual mall walk-through. It’s an online shopping experience that satisfies touchy-feely urges and the need for merchant face time.

edwardslogo1Another ReVOLUTION highlight is the PiSO eCommerce Development Awards (eDWARDS). The awards show aims to give small online sellers a platform for gaining recognition. All online sellers may join eDWARDS by visiting www.ecomex.com.ph, registering their store and downloading a nomination badge.

Bazaar exhibitors and patrons shall also be privy to the inner workings of a revolution on the rise—ecommerce. The 1st Philippine eCommerce Expo and eBiz Workshops and Seminars shall also be held during the two-day event with industry leaders and innovators sharing valuable tricks of the trade.

For more information, visit the official event website at www.ecomex.com.ph. To connect with other ecommerce entrepreneurs, make sure to join the PiSO social network at www.piso.ph.

Joybidder Video & Lyrics

Joybidder (You Bid Me Out)

Why do you bid me out, Joybidder, baby

Just to let me down and mess me around

And then worst of all, you don’t even buy it when you say you will

But you’re bidding still, I hate you, I hate you

More than anyone darling

You should have been banned from the start

Don’t bid me out, Joybidder, don’t be a jerk

I’ve been bidding since ten and then you log on again

And I scream, you can’t do this to me

I’ve been dreaming of that bag and you can’t have it, you hag

You’re a creep

I’m going to tell on you

Hey, hey, hey, you crazy lady, just try to find

Hey, hey, hey, another site because this one is mine

Hey, hey, hey, I’ll be home

Bidding for a phone, shiny and new

Newhoohoo, newhoohoo…

(Repeat chorus)

This site is my joy but you’re here to destroy

And I hate you, just go away

I know you’re a tool and surely a fool

Why are you here, this site is not for you

Hey, hey, hey, you crazy lady, just try to find

Hey, hey, hey, another site, because this one is mine

Hey, hey, hey, I’ll be home

Bidding for a phone, shiny and new

Newhoohoo, newhoohoo

(Repeat chorus)

Looking Back: Remnants from the Barkada Text Promo

Way back last year, the SMS Barkada Text promo became one of the most celebrated events in Auction.ph. Needless to say, this marketing strategy has created a lot of exposure and immeasurable mileage for the foremost online shopping mall in the country.

. What kind of text promo would you participate in? Send us your suggestions.

. What kind of text promo would you participate in? Send us your suggestions.

The Barkada Text promo created a huge buzz in a number of internet shops and other wifi zones in the country promoting the name of Auction.ph. The promo also spawned countless blog reviews, forum threads and comments and testimonials from giant social networking sites like Friendster and Multiply.  It was proof that a simple concept can become massive.

Now, one year later, clamour for the program eerily resonates from digital archives.  What remains are raves about the program punctuated with acrobatic emoticons.  We have compiled some of the reviews and you can revisit the glory days of free load here and here.

What made the program effective was the simplicity. Sign-in get Php30.00 load automatically.  Need more load?  Refer others to sign-in and get extra.  Anyone can refer a maximum of 20 people.  Basically, anyone can load up to Php600.00 worth of load credits.  In terms of positive reinforcement, a Php30.00 load simply for signing up is not shabby at all.  Signing-up takes less than 2 minutes.

At present, Auction.ph is reviewing the program and analyzing what made it successful.  It’s not that hard to figure out.  We live in an SMS-crazy country and it would be crazy to ignore that fact.  Right now, Auction.ph is drawing plans to integrate SMS elements in upcoming online events to maximize their potential.

If there are Barkada Text fans out there, we would like to hear from you.  What kind of text promo would you participate in?  Send us your suggestions.  You won’t get free load this time, but maybe…

Auction.ph B-Day: Slightly bare but largely a blast.

Auction.ph recently celebrated its 3rd year anniversary as a registered company and the website’s 2nd year of existence in cyberspace. To celebrate the milestone, Auction.ph invited bloggers and the always accommodating members of the Cyberpress.

Executing the party felt like an abridged version of the website’s two years. And here is an unabridged version of what happened. For those who came but are now experiencing a hazy recollection of what took place and for those who were not able to come.

2.00pm August 14. Just 5 hours before the party. Auction.ph Office.

Manu Ofiaza, Auction.ph resident blogger and party promoter was worried about the party. He was worried about food supplies. With over 50 people who confirmed their attendance, he was thinking how to keep 50++ people well-fed and happily inebriated with food and beverage supplies rationed exactly for 50 people.

“Let’s just eat after all our invited guests have eaten,” he said. Everyone accepted, of course. We’ve endured so much more just to keep our website in prime form and small pangs of hunger are relatively benign.

2.30pm.

More people were added to the list. We had a Marketing Meeting but our focus was evenly split. We were discussing future strategies while Manu was counting pizza slices in his head.

4.00pm. Auction.ph Office. Still.

Manu added finishing touches to his presentation as the advance team was preparing to leave to go to the venue. They brought banners, technical equipment and registration materials. There were some food items inside the refrigerator and the team considered bringing them for emergency purposes. They ultimately decided against it. A stick of butter and a Tupperware of kimchi were hardly sufficient in the event of a food crisis.

“Bahala na si Batman.”

4.30pm. Elbow Room, Metrowalk.

The advanced team set-up the venue and put up festive banners to transform the posh private room into a cozy (and gratuitously branded) party room. Manu rehearsed his presentation while Kris Andres, technical director and production supervisor, organized the registration area and tested the equipment.

5.30pm. Back in Auction.ph.

Meanwhile, back at the office, true to the name of the online event, iHoopla was causing some minor hoopla. Executives decided to postpone the event launch and Kris was instructed to pull out the iHoopla release from the press kits.

Moments later, through a valiant effort from the Merchandising Department, iHoopla was reactivated and ready to go.

Kris was advised to put all the pulled releases back in.

5.40pm. The entire universe.

Rain came down in sheets and traffic was at a standstill.

7.00pm. Elbow Room, Metrowalk.

Invited guests started coming in. Despite the torrential downpour, a few managed to make it on time.

Abe Olandres
Jedi Dancel
Calvin Lo
Eugene Villar
Relly Carpio
Clea A. Barrion
Cha M. Santurcas
Kyo Seo
Gunnie Lee
Edwin Sallan
Park Kyubin
Joel Pinaroc
Melvin Calimag
Trina Bahala
Noel S. Samulde
Marlon C. Magtira

8.45pm. Elbow Room, Metrowalk.

An hour long delay seemed like a long enough grace period. Angelo Hernandez, resident blabber mouth, started the program. Auction.ph Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer, Ms. Jenny Kim, welcomed the guests. After which, all the revered guests were given time to introduce themselves.

8.50pm. Program Proper.

iHoopla was presented to guests followed by Manu’s presentation about AdAuction. In a nutshell, the point driven home was that Auction.ph is really, really generous. The new program blueprint has additional streams for creating revenues for bloggers and web publishers.

9.15pm. Game time.

Guests were asked to give their recommendations on how to further improve the AdAuction service. Cha Santos, resident model of Auction.ph, made the rounds and collected the suggestions from the guests. They were thrown in together with the suggestions sent online.

(The list of suggestions will be posted on this blog so stay tuned.)

Lucky raffle draw winners were given e-money and gift packs from Neo.

After the raffle, Fleur Zara, resident singer, gave an ear-splitting performance, a startling teaser for what was going to happen next.

9.30pm. Pinoy Blog Idol.

Nothing fosters camaraderie like videoke.

The first-ever Pinoy Blog Idol was conducted featuring three respectable judges (Merchandising Manager, Brian Chong, VP and CMO, Ms. Jenny Kim, Blogger, Abe Olandres) and seven talented and quirky competitors.

Below is a list of the participants, their song choices and a record of their scores.

  1. Kyo Seo, Media, An Eric Clapton Song,
  2. Trina Bahala, Adamson Auctionista, A Sappy Song
  3. Rely Carpio, Cyberpress, A Bon Jovi Song
  4. Noel Samulde, Adamson Auctionista, A Matchbox 20 Song
  5. Gunnie Lee, Media, Livin La Vida Loca
  6. Blozoom, Online Seller, Sappy Song But Nice,
  7. Abe Olandres, Judge, Same as Noel’s

Trina was given extra credit for being pretty. Blozoom got bonus points for being an online seller. And Abe, despite being one of the Judges, didn’t get any special treatment at all. Sorry, Abe. J

The Korean dude who sang Livin La Vida Loca won the grand prize after showcasing not only his singing and dancing skills, but his acting, his beer-spraying, lighter-flicking and magic-feigning antics as well. Ms. Jenny Kim gave him an 11 from a possible highest score of 10. He got one point for singing and a well-deserved 10 for all the rest.

10.30pm. Wrap-up.

Guests came away happy. They got free loot, free entertainment and they all made new friends. A few stayed for more rounds of singing, drinking and for a fashion shoot that happened out of nowhere.

12.30am. In the land of the plastered.

The team realized that despite the tension and the last minute adjustments, it was all worth it. And just like the past two years, after all the hardships and the struggles, yes, it was worth it. And it still is.

Photos of the event are uploaded here.

On behalf of Auction.ph, we send our warmest appreciation to all the bloggers, web publishers and to all the members of the Cyberpress. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you all again in Pinoy Blog Idol Part. 2! J
