Globe iPhone 3G: Is it really worth the wait?

After much anticipation and fanfare, Globe Telecom, together with Apple, finally announced the arrival of iPhone 3G to the Philippines on August 22.

iPhone 3G, which combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone plus 3G networking that is twice as fast*, has built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services. It operates on Wi-Fi, EDGE, and 3G networks.

It also has an iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs hundreds of third party applications available through the new App Store.

iPhone 3G will be available though Globe in special pre paid and post paid plans, which will come with free local mobile internet hours, free Wi-Fi browsing hours (in areas covered by Globe Wireless Internet Zones).

The initial rates are quite unreasonable. If only to be one of the first to own an iPod 3G in the country, it is definitely not worth it. At least for now. For sure, Globe will eventually adjust the prices. While waiting for this, check out other options as Auction.ph features 3G phones starting next week.
